Anderson Lee ( FAIA, HKIA, RIBA )
Anderson is an architect, educator and independent curator. He found Index Architecture Limited in 2000, and has been teaching at the Faculty of Architecture, the University of Hong Kong since 2003. He has been elevated to the prestigious College of Fellows by the American Institute of Architects (FAIA). He is a Registered Architect(RA) in the U.S.A and Hong Kong, and member of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). He received his Master of Architecture degree from Princeton University where he was awarded the Full-tuition Fellowship.
The works of Index Architecture Limited of which Anderson found have collected Design Honors and Merits Awards from the American Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Institute of Architects and Asia Design Award etc. The works of Index have been featured in design periodicals and journals such as the L’Area, Domus, SCMP, Perspective, d+a, Hinge, Time+Architecture etc., and have been shown in a wide range of invited exhibitions and design forums.
With over 30 years of experience as a practicing professional, Anderson has been involved in the design of prestigious architectural projects such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, Finland, the MIT Residence Hall at Massachusetts, U.S.A, Zheng Seng Rehabilitation Centre, HKSAR and HongKou Shanghai Park/Memorial Design, P.R.C
Academically Anderson is the Program Director of the Master of Architecture(Design) and the Career Discovery Program at HKU. He is the recipient of the HKU Faculty Outstanding Teaching Award in 2014, and has obtained funded research from private sectors, such as the Chinese Permanent Cemetery of Hong Kong, the Nanfung Group as well as from the Office of Teaching and Learning at HKU.
Professionally Anderson was appointed as Chief Curator of the Hong Kong/Shenzhen Bi-city Biennale (2011), and also curated the exhibition “On Reading Single Family House” in Taichung, Shanghai, and Hong Kong (2016). He was elected as the President of the Hong Kong Chapter of the AIA in 2018-19, and is a current board member (2022-26) of the Architect Registration Board(ARB) of the Hong Kong SAR. Anderson acted frequently as jurors and invited design critics such as the Asian Cultural Council(ACC) Fellowship, Asia Pacific Design Awards, Cornell University, Yale University, Princeton University, Meiji University, University of Southern California, UCLA, University of New South Wales, Southeast University, Tongji University amongst others.
